 ""Sometimes a knife takes months from inspiration to design to execution. Other times, things just come together perfectly, and in "real time"… which still means weeks of work, but without the agony of pacing, sleepless nights, and lots of "off-colored" words flung at my various grinders and tools when it doesn't come out just right.
This one worked, and was a joy to craft! The idea of The Prowler comes from a story my mother used to tell me at night when I had trouble sleeping (long before I worried over my knives!)… when I would hear those "bumps in the night". I thought they were monsters… or worse, but my mother would tell me not to worry, She told me that the bumps in the night were actually "The Prowler"… a dark guardian angle of sorts who moved through the walls, floor boards, under our beds, and through the air making sure no harm comes to little boys and girls.
The way she talked about it, The Prowler was small, but hard as steel, compact, unbreakable, and without fear. She told me that The Prowler worried when he'd hear us tossing and turning, or calling for our mother's… he wanted us to sleep soundly. So the more noise we made… the longer we were up, the more time and energy it took from him to help other little boys and girls who really were in trouble! What a great way to get me to shut up and go to sleep! (At least I realize that now!). When I started to work with this wonderfully
brusque Damascus, the idea of The Prowler immediately took shape.
When I was young I used to think I should leave something for the Prowler to thank him, like we do cookies and milk for Santa. The idea of a "Prowler" knife started to take shape even then! I love how compact, yet strong and "serious" this knife is. The addition of such an unusually large Tear Drop guard on such a rutty thick Drop Point blade brings to mind this compact super hero protecting everyone from the evils of the night. Add to that the strength of the stag with a special Walrus Tusk Tip, balanced to perfection and you have a wonderful pocket or boot knife for your own sense of security and power!
